Prior to joining the Office of University Communications at Drexel University in Philadelphia as a speechwriter for Drexel President John Fry and director of executive communications in 2016, Cooke was the chief editorial writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer and a member of the Editorial Board, where he commented on a wide range of topics for which he received a number of regional and statewide journalism awards. Before joining the Editorial Board, Cooke's extensive newspaper career included a lengthy stint reporting from The Inquirer’s City Hall bureau. His work there, in addition to reporting for the paper’s Neighborhoods Team, afforded him extensive knowledge of city government, civic, and political issues.Cooke did an overseas reporting stint in London for The Inquirer during the Falklands War, and also lived abroad in London and Manchester during two Rotary Foundation fellowship years.
