About Russell Williams
I am enthusiastic about how the electricity industry, as a sector that already has an advanced decarbonisation roadmap, can support and drive the decarbonisation of other sectors. I see that the core technologies required to take us through the next 10-15 years of the energy transition already exist – we just have strategy, scale, economic and integration issues to resolve. With 35 years of experience in telecommunications and IT industries across Australia and Asia, I have been part of major industry deployments and transitions with many analogies to energy. This experience spans strategy, planning, procurement, deployment, and operations of large, complex technology and infrastructure networks, most recently in Senior and General Manager roles. My passion is for identifying and developing new opportunities and then establishing teams and capabilities spanning business, technical and commercial aspects.I am translating my skills and experience in telecommunications to energy and have undertaken a Master in Energy Systems degree at the University of Melbourne I am now looking at where best to apply that new knowledge and previous experience in the energy industry. My current area of interest is how distributed energy resources integrate into distribution networks – how DERs can be orchestrated to maximise customer/user benefit with minimal detrimental impact on the network. With EV charging anticipated to grow network energy peak demand by 50% by 2050, together with rooftop solar proliferation, this is an area that distributers and the industry, in general, need to apply strategic planning, integration, and IT solutions to add value to customers, retail and network participants.
Listed skills include Business Development, Wireline, Telecommunications, Wireless, and 29 others.
