The Roddenberry Fellowship is a 12-month program for activists who are working to protect the most vulnerable and to make the US a more inclusive and equitable place to live. Fellows are innovators, community leaders, and changemakers leading the efforts for a more just and equitable country. Recipients receive $50,000 to take an existing initiative (e.g. campaign, organization) to the next level and amplify its impact OR to launch a new initiative. I recruit and support a pool of 20 coaches and serve the 15 current fellows and 55 alumni.

The New Organizing Institute is an organization that provides trainings, technology, and voting information to political organizers in an effort to help progressive campaigns and candidates win. My fellowship was dedicated to looking at the issue of how you attract more talent to the progressive movement.

Program DevelopmentLed a staff of nine in developing and implementing programs based in both staff’s personal purpose and professional expertise with an emphasis on launching initiatives that were innovative and scalable. Programs addressed information gaps related to working in the nonprofit sector, domestic and global volunteering, graduate education and working in year-of-service programs. We selected programs by factoring such key elements as issue size, scope of potential impacts, scalability, likelihood for media recognition and fundability. My goal was always to set the national and global precedents in being the organizational leader and introducing solutions, while also creating mutually beneficial partnerships with other organizations. I instill an approach that looks for how we can best partner, yet also understand that being the first to introduce solutions carries great rewards. Revenue Generation I developed programs that were self-supporting by locating voids in the marketplace that numerous funders found compelling and unique. Partnership Development I developed an approach to partnerships–sponsors, hosts, advisory board members–that emphasizes programmatic fits that provide money, staff and/or expertise while simultaneously ensuring a return on investment for our partners. With dozens of events occurring across the country, our ability to deliver quality experiences to both organizations and individuals was the result of carefully building trust; providing detailed partners agreements, information and event FAQs; and maintaining continuous post-event communication. Through growing strong partnerships, I was able to innovate in such a manner as to guarantee both replicable success and the revenue that sustained our programs and reduced dependency on initial or ongoing foundation support.

Managed an academic and social enrichment program for inner-city students in grades 5-9 in seven learning centers throughout the District of Columbia. Developed and implemented all new programs and curricular areas including initiating relationships for student instruction from a local theater company, a national opera company and an international public speaking organization. Supervised varied staff including center directors, teachers and support staff and evaluated personnel at sites citywide. Recruited, hired and trained volunteer tutors and staff.Coordinated six-week summer program for 500 students and sixty staff members. Counseled parents and students oneducational matters.
