Smith Shellnut Wilson (SSW), a wholly owned subsidiary of Baton Rouge based b1Bank, is a registered investment advisor (RIA) specializing in managing investment portfolios for financial institutions, corporations, foundations, and high net worth individuals. In addition to investment management, SSW provides customized consulting services including but not limited to: Investment policy, ALM validation, regulatory compliance, contingency funding planning, contingency capital planning, impairment testing, municipal & corporate credit analysis, and 401k plan administration. As a Relationship Manager for our Financial Institutions practice, I am responsible for new client acquisition and day to day management of existing Financial Institution client relationships. Ideal Financial Institution clients for SSW include banks and credit unions with Total Assets under $5B. We have specific expertise working with financial institutions that are CDFI’s.

As a member of the Financial Institutions Banking Group, I was responsible for providing Liquidity Solutions and Balance Sheet Solutions to Financial Institutions in the Southeastern United States.

Managed relationships and the sales process with 168 bank and credit union clients in the Southeastern United States. Advised C-Level Management on funding and balance sheet management using loans (advances), letters of credit, interest rate risk management solutions, liquidity solutions, derivatives, and community investment grants. Conducted Credit Review calls to clients to understand Asset Quality deterioration, and recommended risk rating changes when appropriate. Maintained a remote office location in Biloxi, MS, and traveled throughout the territory and to the corporate office in Dallas as needed.

Relationship Manager - Community Banking - MS Gulf Coast. Retain and grow a Business Banking portfolio of companies on the MS Gulf Coast, with credit exposure of up to $10MM per borrower. Identify businesses and high net worth individuals for other lines of business such as: Treasury Management, Private Wealth Management, and Insurance.

Started as a Commercial Credit Underwriter in Jackson, MS for both Business and Corporate Banking. Helped start and implement a standardized Credit Process for the bank. Accepted a promotion to Commercial Lender in Gulfport, MS, maintained and grew a $48MM loan portfolio of commercial clients. Credit facilities consisted of Commercial Real Estate, Asset Based Lending, C&I Lines of Credit, Syndicated Credits, and operating lines to publicly traded companies.

Managed the underwriting process for a $120MM C&I loan portfolio to Corporate Banking clients in Mississippi. Duties included financial statement spreads, formal credit write ups, loan covenant testing, monthly borrowing base calculations/adjustments, presenting new loan requests and renewals to Credit Committee, and traveling with lender on client calls.

USMC Reserve - Artillery, Infantry.I spent 6 years in the USMC Reserve. Our unit was deployed to Iraq in January of 2005 for 10 months as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We provided convoy security, base security, and general support to military operations in Al Anbar Province.Decorations Include: Combat Action Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Sea Service Deployment Medal, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Operation Iraqi Freedom Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
