I represent the association before Congress and federal agencies, primarily the U.S. Department of Transportation. I monitor federal legislation, regulation, national developments and other activity of interest to the highway safety community. The chief outcome of my efforts has been to significantly expand state access to federal grants to save lives on our nation's roads, by expanding grant eligibility, expanding allowable use, minimizing administrative burdens, and matching grant opportunities with programs to address leading causes of vehicle crashes. I provide assistance to GHSA's state members on federal grant compliance and manage the development of related training programs. I manage GHSA's engagement on traffic safety and vehicle technology issues, including the emergence of autonomous vehicle technology. I help secure opportunities for GHSA to bolster its engagement, visibility, partnerships and revenue.I serve as a spokesperson for GHSA before the media and at meetings and events. I also support the association's public relations strategy by responding to media inquiries, developing news releases and media statements, and contributing to association reports and print and social media publications.I support the organization of meetings of GHSA's Executive Board and association membership. I also supported AAA's national public relations office with responses to media inquiries, news releases and media statements. I led the analysis and research of state motor vehicle law information featured in safety and travel products.I served as an issue manager for a wide range of traffic safety issues, including distracted driving, connected cars and autonomous vehicle technology, impaired driving and older driver safety. I created and maintained legislative advocacy toolkits and public education and outreach materials (for print, web, graphics, and video). I also drafted legislation considered by state legislatures.In support of AAA's public affairs office, I supported senior staff and executives with research, media statements and executive presentations.I managed AAA's Digest of Motor Laws project (www.drivinglaws.aaa.com), including carrying out an ongoing research program to identify state motor vehicle law changes to keep the Digest of Motor Laws up to date. I also carried out web traffic optimization operations; at the time, the Digest microsite was one of AAA national's leading sites in organic search.
