• As a technical lead, engineered a distributed build system for the Microsoft Office development organization to orchestrate code submission validation operations. This system was used by over 300 partner teams for rapid build validation, across over 1000 different build configurations, and accounted for over 95% of all submissions to the Office code base by over 4000 developers. It was also the vehicle for producing official versions of Microsoft Office for delivery to customers.• Devised a build support model to ensure rapid response to customer-facing engineering issues that captured customer feedback and engineering system signals that improved recovery times by 80% and ensured proper engineering resourcing for maintainability.

• Standardized Office development platform onto a single centralized system, resulting in a highly componentized and optimized system that improved overall builds performance by two orders of magnitude. This enabled faster continuous validation and deployment, which resulted in a quantum leap forward in the Office development cycle and evergreen engineering philosophy.• Created the first automated quick early detection build system, which allowed developers to check in and have a change verified in as fast as 10 minutes, as opposed to the previous normal of 3-5 days. This early detection system improved the overall build process by quickly ascertaining code breaks and preventing them from propagating through the system. This system formed the basis for organization level standardization and adoption and is still being used today.• Established the foundational contract dependency system for efficient build modeling. This system enabled substantial reductions in producing releases of Office from >3 weeks to <2 days, as well as enabled all Office developers to improve their turnaround time for getting new code deployed into production from weeks to <1 day.

• Introduced component-based build architectures into Office build systems, improving developer satisfaction, build velocity, and granular validation. Converged this architecture with a directed-acyclic-graph based build engine to maximize caching and build speed in an elastic Cloud-based distributed build environment.• Designed and implemented standardized compiler tools and processes, enabling scalable, automated build environments while improving build reliability and efficiency.• Created the first automated distributed build system for Microsoft Office, significantly improving the performance and reliability of release processes.
