As lead optimisation R&D Engineer at Therapanacea, I worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team to create a full-scale, high-performance treatment planning system for radiotherapy. I led the core design and implementation of algorithms that provide A.I.-based, patient-specific radiation treatment plans to treat cancer.It was my responsibility to understand the clinical needs of the doctor to treat a patient, tackle the hard scientific questions to meet these needs in terms of algorithm design, and finally overcome the practical problems of how to suggest a treatment to the planner within tight hardware and time constraints. To be effective I worked in an Agile working environment on a primarily Python and C++ based codebase, and occasionally represented the company at radiotherapy conferences.
