I covered the Idaho Legislature, crime, courts and all things related to Idaho's judicial system. Investigative stories on sexual assault investigations have led to multiple changes within Idaho law enforcement, the submission of some untested rape kits, and new state legislation on the policies around rape kit testing.

Bakersfield, California Area

I covered general assignment news for The Bakersfield Californian. I was responsible for updating the newspaper's online breaking news blog as well as working on daily news and feature stories. - I wrote a series of stories regarding a toxic gas leak in Arvin, a small town outside Bakersfield, that led to the evacuation of about three dozen people from eight homes. They had been inhaling the toxic gas for an unknown amount of time. They were evacuated for more than eight months.

I covered crime and courts on both the local and federal levels. In my role, I witnessed and covered two executions by lethal injection. I also wrote several investigative stories as well as a major three-part series on mental health in Idaho.

I covered South Dakota Legislature and city government in Pierre, S.D.I also covered the 2011 Missouri River flood that destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses in the community. It was one of South Dakota's largest natural disasters.
