My career began as a medical assistant and then expanded to laboratory manager of a small in-office practice. From there, I was able to move into medical transcription and was afforded the opportunity to work at home. Since my transcription days, I have transitioned to more of an HIM role where I have performed many functions, such as testing new technology, provider deficiency management, transcription/dictation management, technology assistance to providers, patient portal proxy management, release of information, regulatory compliance, and quality and statistical analytics in my current role. One of my greatest career achievements was establishing the in-office laboratory for a small endocrinology practice. I performed research on CLIA and OSHA guidelines and developed best practices for the office. We underwent annual inspections and always passed with flying colors.
