In 2010, I was recruited to be “employee #1” by the founding Director of the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM). Everything about launching the institute was exciting and entrepreneurial. The start-up years were essential for establishing ICERM as one of the premier math institutes in the United States. Now, with three 5-year grants already approved by the National Science Foundation, ICERM is well established and well-regarded across the globe.As Assistant Director, I serve as Chief of Staff to the Director. With an annual budget of $4.7M, I oversee all operational aspects of ICERM's portfolio of mathematical research conferences and events. (ICERM hosts 1000+ international researchers annually.) I work closely with the Director and ICERM’s 3 boards to ensure that the institute's administrative and scientific goals are met. This includes implementing special projects and events.I oversee all of ICERM's outreach efforts, including the coordination of 4-5 public lectures per year, hosting special programming to support equity and diversity in STEM, and coordinating a high school summer day-camp called GirlsGetMath.I work with ICERM’s Director, Brown’s Office for the Vice President of Research, and Foundation Relations to seek-out, coordinate, and contribute to grant proposals. I write the majority of the annual reports as required by ICERM's various funding agencies.I developed and oversee ICERM's evaluation process for 15+ annual scientific programs, as required by the NSF. This includes collecting and summarizing 2 and 5 year-follow-up surveys which track the career growth and scientific publications of our participants.I established ICERM's branding, and develop all of ICERM's print marketing, web, and social media content.I developed ICERM’s human resource and operational policies and procedures for institute visitors and staff. I supervise the Event Manager and the Director of Finance and Administration.
