Part of a vibrant team at the Brown School of Public Health (BSPH) that executes a diverse set of programs, research and strategic initiatives in the Dean’s office aimed at addressing key ongoing and emerging problems in public health, and at broadening the school’s portfolio and reach. Current topic areas on the Dean’s Special Projects and Innovations team include pandemic preparedness and response, crisis communications and misinformation, health equity, climate change and health, and digital health.

In 2010, I was recruited to be “employee #1” by the founding Director of the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM). Everything about launching the institute was exciting and entrepreneurial. The start-up years were essential for establishing ICERM as one of the premier math institutes in the United States. Now, with three 5-year grants already approved by the National Science Foundation, ICERM is well established and well-regarded across the globe.As Assistant Director, I serve as Chief of Staff to the Director. With an annual budget of $4.7M, I oversee all operational aspects of ICERM's portfolio of mathematical research conferences and events. (ICERM hosts 1000+ international researchers annually.) I work closely with the Director and ICERM’s 3 boards to ensure that the institute's administrative and scientific goals are met. This includes implementing special projects and events.I oversee all of ICERM's outreach efforts, including the coordination of 4-5 public lectures per year, hosting special programming to support equity and diversity in STEM, and coordinating a high school summer day-camp called GirlsGetMath.I work with ICERM’s Director, Brown’s Office for the Vice President of Research, and Foundation Relations to seek-out, coordinate, and contribute to grant proposals. I write the majority of the annual reports as required by ICERM's various funding agencies.I developed and oversee ICERM's evaluation process for 15+ annual scientific programs, as required by the NSF. This includes collecting and summarizing 2 and 5 year-follow-up surveys which track the career growth and scientific publications of our participants.I established ICERM's branding, and develop all of ICERM's print marketing, web, and social media content.I developed ICERM’s human resource and operational policies and procedures for institute visitors and staff. I supervise the Event Manager and the Director of Finance and Administration.

I managed all the administrative activities for the Department Manager and Chair. This included assisting with faculty searchers and tenure reviews, coordinating bi-weekly faculty meetings, and acting as the departmental human resources rep for students, faculty and staff. I hired, trained, and supervised 5 administrative staff who supported 25 faculty. I worked closely with the faculty and the registrar's office to coordinate course proposals and assign classroom space.I enjoyed interacting with graduate and undergraduate students, conducting first-year student orientations, and coordinating milestone events like thesis defenses and commencement.Not only did I act as managing editor and coordinator of the department's annual alumni newsletter, but I also revamped and maintained the departmental website and the alumni database.

After moving from Chicago to Rhode Island, I was very pleased to find a job at Brown University. I was the main administrative contact for students, faculty and staff, and provided support to the Department Manager and Chair. I supervised a secretarial staff of 6 who supported 30 faculty. I managed all aspects of staff hires, as well as faculty searches and tenure reviews.

The Illinois Performance Excellence Recognition Program (ILPEx), formerly the Lincoln Foundation, manages the not-for-profit Illinois State Quality Award. While at ILPEx, I worked directly with decision-makers and leaders from Illinois' industry, government, education and healthcare sectors in order to manage the state's quality award program. With a budget of $200,000, I managed the award process, including the annual award ceremony and Best Practices Conference. It was also my job to maintain the database of applicants, award winners, examiners, judges, and inquiries.

ArcVentures was a for-profit arm of Rush University Medical Center until it was sold in 1999. ArcVentures housed health-care related programs. I was progressively promoted within several divisions over an eleven-year period of time.I managed all operational aspects of a live-lecture test-prep course series for the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) in a six-state region. In 1999, my sales budget was $1.8M. I managed and trained a multi-site staff of 25, including medical faculty, full-time employees, and work-study students.We regularly surveyed our customers, and I oversaw several quality improvement projects within my region based on student and faculty feedback (improving AV equipment, keeping facilities open later so students could stay and study, etc.).During this time, I designed a student tracking and marketing database. I was eventually asked to train the other regional directors on its use, which standardized our customer data collection.

I was progressively promoted within several divisions over an eleven-year period of time.I was asked to step-in as Interim Manager of Corporate Communications for ArcVentures when an unexpected vacancy in the department occurred. During this brief time, I was responsible for managing the creation and production of all marketing materials and publications for the 5 health-care related divisions within the company. I also wrote and/or edited the monthly newsletters, news releases, and all internal and external publications. I was fortunate to land a new position within ArcVentures just as the new Manager of Corporate Communications was hired.

I was progressively promoted within several divisions over an eleven-year period of time.The president of ArcVentures was very involved with the Total Quality Management (TQM) trend within the healthcare industry. She developed this position with the goal of getting 250 employees trained in the TQM philosophies and processes.I was hired to create the company's divisional educational goals, develop training budgets for each division, launch a reward and recognition program, and create a goal-tracking database. I enjoyed developing the curriculum and conducting the following sessions on a quarterly basis: TQM training, New Employee Orientation, computer software skills, customer service skills, interviewer training, and conflict management workshops.

I was progressively promoted within several divisions over an eleven-year period of time.This position began as a "help desk" job, for which I provided personal computer network and software support for 175 employees. After about 6 months, I realized many staff didn't know how to utilize the software on their computers efficiently or effectively. So, I developed and conducted monthly “ArcUniversity” classes in order to provide on-site PC training.

Braxton Associates, a management consulting firm, was a former division of Deloitte. In this position, I worked with the management consultant partners and associates to create computer-generated client presentations. This was right when Apple computers were starting to become popular. Due to my own love of the Macintosh computer, I ended-up becomming the computer and network system installer for office of 60.
