Supervising Planner responsible for the newly formed Housing Team in the Citywide Planning Section. The Housing Team facilitates and promotes both market rate and affordable housing opportunities in San José. The team develops housing policy, and assists housing developers with site selection, and the permitting and entitlement process.

Advise Mayor on land use and economic development issues such as: SJ 2040 General Plan, Mobilehome Preservation, North San José Area Development Policy, Urban Village Plans, and specific development proposals. Conduct research and analyze complex land use topics with respect to city policies, the General Plan, and Zoning Code. Monitor the Community & Economic Development Committee and Ad-hoc Committee for Development Services, and brief Mayor on major, relevant policy issues coming before the City Council. Represent the Mayor at events and meetings with constituents, businesses, developers, and city staff. Provide information and guidance to prospective applicants seeking entitlements with respect to the City’s larger development and economic development goals. Direct and guide junior staff members in the Mayor’s Office; supervise undergraduate and graduate interns.

Managed day-to-day operations of a 4-person team by responding to a high volume of constituent inquiries and providing other services. Composed press releases and coordinated media outreach on important Council Office initiatives and projects. Advised on policy issues related to land use, education, and neighborhood improvement.
