This role required excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to convey instructions with clarity. -
Phd StudentImperial College London Oct 2015 - Dec 2019London, United KingdomI worked under the supervision of Professor Mark Sephton at Imperial College London with a full, 4 year scholarship. My PhD thesis, entitled "Shale Geochemistry and it's influences on isotopic and molecular weight fractionation during reservoir depressurization" created a more economic approach to shale gas drilling, enabling "sweet spots" to be targeted. My thesis involved designing and testing a new sorption cell for online adsorption-desorption measurements of shale gas. This new setup allowed precise measurements of stable carbon isotope and C1-C2 fractionation based on isolated variables of a heterogeneous shale reservoir. My research combined laboratory-based analytical organic geochemistry with computer-based data analysis. As such, I am proficient in both fundamental geochemical laboratory analysis such as column chromatography and organic extraction through acid digestion as well as more complex analysis using instruments such as the 252-Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS) and the Gas Chromatography - Flame-Ionising Detector (GC-FID). I analysed my rig and instrumentation data via Microsoft Excel. I presented my research at to my external stakeholder, BP as well as several national and international conferences, including as a plenary speaker at the International Meeting of Organic Geochemists (IMOG) in September, 2017.Throughout my studies, I have been heavily involved in outreach both within the Earth Science and Engineering (ESE) Department and within the Wohl Reach Out Lab (Imperial College) including developing material for the WROL Science Club, running Summer Schools and delivering STEM talks in schools across London. For these sessions, I created the lecture materials, organised the experimental setup and completed the associated administrative documentation such as COSHH risk assessments, ordering equipment and budgeting. -
StudentImperial College London Sep 2014 - Sep 2015London, United KingdomI completed a yearlong MSc programme in Petroleum Sciences for which I obtained a Merit. This course involved numerous group projects – including the Imperial Barrel Award – fieldtrips and a 3 month long, company based MSc project. This was a fantastic opportunity to broaden my petroleum based knowledge, especially in terms of development geology. Whilst previous experience lent itself to new ventures and exploration, the Petroleum Geoscience course covered these aspects again in more depth as well as exploring development geology. This culminated in the Wytch Farm development project. I took part in creating a geological model of the area using Petromod as well as facies mapping using wireline logs and sedimentary cores. This course not only gave me the opportunity to work in teams with people from all over the world but also add breadth and depth to my previous petroleum geoscience knowledge. This is best highlighted by the 3 month long MSc project which I completed at Tullow Oil Plc. Within the Kenya Exploration team, I worked alongside a group of people from a variety of different backgrounds and experiences. Whilst the details of the project are confidential, it allowed me to gain experience working with ArcHYDRO software, an extension of ArcGIS, as well as complete a provenance study from source to sink of the area of interest. Not only did this give me experience in a new software but it allowed me to apply the knowledge gained throughout the MSc course and really understand and evaluate the effectiveness of source to sink analysis in certain, geologically complex areas. -
Conference Coordinator (Maternity Cover)The Geological Society London Nov 2018 - Feb 2019London, United KingdomI completed a 4-month long internship at the Geological Society of London. This involved running academic conferences attended by national and international delegates. As conference co-ordinator, I was responsible for all aspects of running an event, from liaising with external companies such as advertisers and catering to calculating and working within an event budget. My role required strong communication skills, effectively interacting with conference convenors, working with members of the academic community, external stakeholders and the general public. Working in this high-pressure environment, I efficiently prioritized and meticulously planned my tasks to ensure that each event proceeded smoothly, receiving high praise from the conference attendees. In the three months that I worked for the Geological Society, I was solely responsible for the two Flagship meetings - Bryan Lovell and Janet Watson meetings - as well as Earth Systems Transitions Meeting.

Summer InternTullow Oil Jun 2014 - Aug 2014Tullow Oil Plc, ChiswickI completed an 8 week summer placement with Tullow Oil Plc working with a team of geoscientists in the Ugandan Department. The main aim of my project was to collate regional data and produce an updated schematic diagram of the Lake Albert Basin. Having created a comprehensive database using all available data I then began a gross depositional environment study. During my time at Tullow, I became familiar with using PRR’s, lithology logs, core data and Petrel as well as specialist reports such as palynology reports. At the end of the internship, I presented my findings to the Ugandan geoscience team. -
Summer InternTullow Oil Jun 2013 - Aug 2013Tullow Oil Plc, ChiswickI completed a 7 week summer placement with Tullow Oil Plc within the Europe and North Atlantic Exploration department. I was assigned a project assessing the Upper Jurassic source rock potential in basins around the North Atlantic margin. Working alongside a small team of geoscientists, I was given independence on the direction of the project. Using public databases and research papers, I gather data on source rock potential of Upper Jurassic rock units in over 20 basins across the study area. This included basic information such as kerogen type, TOC and burial history data such as vitrinite reflectance where available. I was able to explore source rock geochemistry in more detail, researching source-oil fingerprinting and how this was implemented in the basins of Baffin Bay.I created a large working presentation, sourcing all the data, to determine documented source rock presence and quality then collated my findings into an ArcGIS project. ArcGIS allowed me to visually show source rock distribution and potential of each basin in the form of risk maps. Whilst using ArcGIS I also became familiar with Merlin + and Plate Wizard. My internship concluded with a presentation to the Geoscience team outlining which basins I believed to have the greatest source rock potential, detailing the evidence behind these conclusions.
