I worked with state and commonwealth governments in Australia. My field was archives and recordkeeping. When I retired I was principal appraisal archivist at Queensland State Archives - providing advice and guidance across government. My career in archives was extensive - working in all areas throughout my 36 years of service. Specific areas of knowledge and skill were achieved in, research, access, digital and traditional recordkeeping, disposal, strategic management, repository management, document review and web content development. To be success in the positions I held - I developed project management skills, interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, manual handling techniques. My life since retirement is focussed around voluntary work in the community and more specifically with Beyond Blue. I was lead to this change of environment by the degree I completed in Social Sciences, majoring in Social Sciences and a keen interest in mental health. With Beyond Blue I was a Community Champion for 18 months providing peer support on their online forums. Currently my voluntary work revolves around Blue Voices activities - reviewing documents, providing feedback, participating in working groups looking at Beyond Blue's strategic direction. At the moment I'm on the Steering Committee at the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI). NARI researchers work with National Mental Health Commission to identify key issues for the mental health of older people in Australia.
