I worked in a K-1 school of 550 students for approximately 11 years. I screened students for the school psychologists for special placement in Exceptional School Education classes. Many were screened for possible placement in gifted, emotionally disturbed or specific learning disabilities classes. I also led a behavior modification class ( Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) for teachers in my school and in the county who were having difficulty controlling students in their classroom. I consulted teachers along with parents and relatives of a child who exhibited emotional, behavioral, or attention deficit disorders. I helped students develop an understanding of self and others using puppetry in classroom presentations. I worked closely with the principal and parents of children with severe emotional /behavioral disorders.Occasionally I counseled teachers who were having personal problems within their homes. I often went to the homes of indigent students who had health problems or needed food and proper clothing.. A school officer asssisted me in these delicate home visits. I supervised the county-wide testing program for students in K-1 category every year, holding special advance classes for parents who volunteered to proctor the tests.

I taught 10th grade English classes to Basic and Regular students for 11 years.I was sponsor of the RED AND BLACK high school newspaper and taught 11th and 12th grade students for 5 years. The top students learned how to sell the issues they produced as the paper had to support itself. They had to have maintained an overall B plus average and produce teacher recommendations to qualify for these classes.
