I am a senior bioinformatician the Human Genetics programme working with data from the Deciphering Developmental Disorders (DDD) and the Prenatal Assessment of Genomes and Exomes (PAGE) studies. These studies aim to improve diagnosis and understanding of rare developmental disorders.My responsibilities in this role include:-Development and implementation.

• Senior computer biologist for the Xfam group, including the Pfam, Rfam and AntiFam databases.In this role my responsibilities included:
• Running and maintaining the Pfam release pipeline.
• Development of new tools for Pfam and Rfam curation.
• Creation of new families and updates to existing families in the Pfam and Rfam databases.
• User support for the above databases using the RT system.
• Production of the AntiFam database of hidden Markov models designed for the identification of spurious open reading frames.

• My responsibilities in this role included:
• High-quality manual annotation of proteins in UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot.
• Responsible for the submissions project. Working with the submitters to ensure that the entries created from their sequences are of the highest possible standard.
• Annotation of enzymes.
• Training new curators.
• Testing new curation tools.

• Cloning and hyperexpression of putative avian dendritic cell markers, to be used for antibody production and subsequent detection of avian dendritic cells by FACS and immunohistochemistry.
• In situ hybridisation using riboprobes to detect expression of putative dendritic cell markers in avian tissues

• Developing ELISAs and PCRs for the diagnosis of viral infections in equines.
• Routine testing of clinical samples.
