Ruth’s research focuses on geographies of care and family relations, especially gendered life transitions, bereavement and inheritance. She has almost 20 years experience of leading research with children and families in Africa (Senegal, Ghana, Liberia, Tanzania, Uganda) and the UK and has published widely on caringscapes after a family death, care ethics and migration, young caregiving in families affected by HIV and other chronic illnesses, youth identities and resilience, gendered and generational struggles over inheritance and land rights. She was an Editorial Board member for Gender, Place & Culture and Social & Cultural Geography. She is Leader of the Participation Lab at the University of Reading which aims to co-produce knowledge with policymakers, practitioners, community members and young people at local and global scales.
