My career to date has been focused on working in varying areas of the health and social care industry. I have extensive experience at a senior management level. This has provided me with a sound grasp of the roles and responsibilities of social care providers. In addition I possess detailed knowledge of legislative requirements and those of inspecting bodies such as the Care Quality Commission and Supporting People. In two previous posts I have initially worked in a trouble shooting capacity transforming two residential homes that were on the brink of closure and bringing them up to surpass the minimum requirements of CQC providing a high quality service, and regaining trust in stakeholders. In addition to this I have gained experience of opening up and managing a brand new forensic service. My experience of working with the most vulnerable members of society has cemented my commitment to empowering individuals to be as independent and self governing as possible and to lead fulfilling lives. As a qualified counsellor working within a person centred/humanistic framework I have a wealth of skills that can be transferred to any sort of role that demands client empowerment, empathy and excellent communication and listening skills. A large part of my career has included staff development and training as I am a qualified social care trainer.

This has required me to support up to nine individuals at a time who have an offending history, where I facilitated the rehabilitation of those who have quite often spent long periods in secure hospitals. An important part of the role was enabling them to develop the social and practical skills required for their planned transition into independent supported living. I ensured my team maintained a secure environment in order to protect the inhabitants and the public in the surrounding local area. One of the ways this was achieved was through carrying out thorough risk assessments to manage, eliminate or minimise the impact of any individuals risky, impulsive and offending behaviours, and working in close partnership with other stakeholders as part of a multidisciplinary team.
