I joined Anu Family Services as a part-time Director of Finance tooversee the current accountant's position and offer recommendations for improvement. My other duties included establishing internal controls, explaining the financial results of the organization and presenting them to the CEO and Board of Directors, and analyzing the organization and recommending improvements. This became a full time position and I was not interested in working full time. Anu then hired a full time Director of Finance and I was asked to become a contract employee to develop rates for the various programs Anu provided.

Responsible for developing a costing system that enabled management to determine the actual profitability of products produced. Developed machine rates and labor rates where none previously existed. Categorized indirect costs into plant and administrative overhead and proposed a method for using these to determine the entire cost to produce and sell each product. Created a model to calculate a selling price that covers all costs and realize the desired profit. Categorized fixed and variable costs into proper categories and determine the break even point. Performed month end close and prepared the bank package. Accommodated the flow of paperwork to process customer complaints and issue credits on a semi-monthly basis. Reconciled general ledger accounts on a monthly basis. Audited production work orders for accuracy.

Explained variances in profitability on monthly profit and loss statements. Performed detailed unit cost studies on new and existing products. Ensured accuracy of production reporting and inventory pricing. Ensured conformance to GAAP and internal global financial standards. Provided financial counsel to management and business teams. -Created valid pricing comparisons that allowed a division to use competitive pricing more strategically, maximizing sales and minimizing the negataive impact to the bottom line. -Identified cost drivers that allowed a division to improve its profitability and assist in strategic planning by leading a 13 person team that restructured a division's financial reporting system. -Researched and analyzed department spending to provide financial counsel to 3 teams formed to reduce spending. One project alone identified $350,000 in savings with no impact to the customer and very little impact to the sales reps.-Developed a spreadsheet model that analyzed the financial impact of a three-tiered product offering to minimize losses resulting from an international subsidiary undercutting domestic prices to domestic customers. The model allowed marketing to develop the best strategy to maintain market share and minimize losses in gross margin.-Created a training package on a new unit cost system and presented it on 3M TV to all U.S. plant locations. The presentation was recorded for future use in the U.S. and international subsidiaries. The package could be used by others, both inside and outside of finance, for training and also as a reference manual at individual workstations.
