NOAA Fisheries West Coast Region manages federal fisheries and protected species for the benefit of communities, industry, and individuals living along the West Coast of the United States. Engaging and informing the communities we serve is a key part of the work we do. As Branch Chief for Communications and External Affairs, I lead a talented team using the latest communications tools and techniques to connect our work to those it impacts from the snow caps to the white caps and beyond.

I help tell the story of the science, scientists, and history of the Northwest Fisheries Science Center. We use a myriad of communication methods including web, social, and print media, outreach and science events, photography and infographics, education curricula, videos, and traditional media. We are constantly adopting new technologies to solve emerging communications needs. Our team takes pride in being a resource for scientists, and thinking and acting strategically to communicate who we are and what we do.

NOAA's mission in the West is broad and varied. We serve many stakeholders in the realm of environmental observations and predictions. My role as Regional Coordinator is to facilitate a cross-NOAA team of executives in the eleven Western States to find cross-cutting projects that serve our partners and stakeholders.

In NOAA's Budget Office I worked with agency representatives to develop products communicating the budget and policies of the National Marine Fisheries Service. The projects I worked on included the FY10- FY12 Presidents budgets delivery to Congress, Congressional budget testimony, and presentations to partners on NOAA's budget plans and activities.

Served as project manager for academic year-long keystone environmental management project. Project investigated shoreline homeowners' stewardship ethic and barriers to shoreline restoration. Results included publication and distribution of first shoreline neighborhood newsletter, presentations before local government representatives, and write up of survey findings.
