About Ruth Jenkinson
I joined the Trust Board of Nunnery Wood High School Worcester, a single academy trust (SAT), in 2018, first as a Trustee and then as a committee Chair and from September 2020 to August 2024 as Chair of the Trust Board. With the assistance of the Governance Professional, I updated the Articles of Association and amended the governance structure, I led a review and revision of the committee structure, I initiated annual strategy workshops with senior school leaders and trustees, and participated in governance training sessions and webinars offered by the Confederation of School Trusts. After many years in the UK university sector and working in a variety of senior management roles, I completed specialist, accredited coach training and then set up my own business in early 2010. I worked for over 8 years with senior clients from over 37 universities and higher education organisations as an action learning facilitator, executive coach and mentor. I am also a trained and accredited mediator. I helped to create a safe and trusted confidential space in which the coachee could develop their self-awareness and skills in reflection. Through this, new approaches to challenges or issues could be explored and pursued. I offered supportive challenge, aiming to help the coachee achieve their full potential. I welcomed feedback myself and also encouraged clients to both seek it and act upon it appropriately. My job satisfaction came through seeing clients learn, grow and gain greater self-confidence, skills and resilience, celebrating with them their achievements and at times being there alongside them as they dealt with and worked through the inevitable challenges and disappointments which demanding roles can and do present.I was an Associate of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, and worked on the Top Management Programme (TMP) as Action Learning Facilitator and Executive Coach and on the Academic Leaders' Programme for Durham and Newcastle Universities.I have previous experience of strategic leadership and direct management in higher education of a range of professional services, including libraries and learning resource centres, IT, student services, estates, facilities management and student administration. I have over 25 years' experience of managing multi-million pound budgets, large professional service departments, change management, restructuring, new build projects and organisational and service amalgamations.
