About Ruth Mitchell
The Thrive Programme® is an evidence based, proven and empowering training programme that teaches you how to take control of their life and learn skills and strategies to thrive. The six week training programme does not involve therapy or counselling and is very easy to understand and follow. The course addresses, but is not limited to anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, depression, social anxiety, eating disorders and other issues that affect our lives. For the past 10 years I have worked within primary school settings to support children with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs. In fact this covers virtually all children at some points in their school life. In trained as a Licenced Thrive Practitioner to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of how children's behaviours are a communication of their needs - both the underpinning theory and practical strategies to support those children to build better coping skills. This transformed my practice for the better and drove me to complete a Train the Trainer course in 2019 and as a Thrive Approach trainer I can support adults working with children to gain better skills, insight and understanding.My focus on mental health and wellbeing has grown and I am now very proud to also be a Licenced Thrive Programme Coach to further build on supporting both adults and children in learning how to take understand and manage their mental health and wellbeing in positive, empowering and healthy ways. I have a particular interest in working with young people and their primary carers and those whose lives are limited by anxiety.

Thrive Approach Licenced Trainer
Since 2020 I have been delivering Thrive Approach training to groups of delegates from across the UK via Zoom. I train in the childhood (Primary) and early years sectors. In addition I deliver the DfE funded 'Designated Senior Mental Health Lead' training which 'enables senior leaders to effectively assess their school's or college's current mental health and wellbeing provision and to develop a clear plan for improvement via a practical, sustainable long-term whole-school mental health and wellbeing strategy'.

As a Licenced Thrive Trainer I am delivering Thrive training to groups of delegates across the South West, Midlands, Wales and Central regions. Working with children throughout school – reception up to Yr 6 – to support their emotional, social and behavioural well-being. Running small group sessions to target specific children’s needs identified in close liaison with teaching staff. Using Thrive Approach to assess children's developmental interruptions and plan strategies of support. Working one-to-one to support children with bereavement and emotional needs, including anxiety and anger management. Attending professional meetings such as TAC, ChIN and EHR. Work closely with other professional agencies such as PSA, TaMHS and CAMHS. Support Young Carers within my setting, and ensure their needs are clearly identified and communicated when they move on – this included gaining the school a Young Carers award and then being awarded Young Carers Ambassador School status. Supporting vulnerable children with extended transition into Yr 7. Running emotional literacy groups ‘Tranquility and Discovery’ with all Yr 6 children. Attending annual Yr 6 residential, and various class trips to support specific children. Supporting children within the classroom to make appropriate behaviour and learning choices. I also deliver private tuition in English and maths up to GCSE level.
