Our kaupapaAroha Afternoons is a community initiative providing an opportunity to connect with our neighbours from different cultures and backgrounds in order to listen to and learn from lived experiences together . When we make time to listen to and understand others we feel a greater sense of community and connectivity . We know that we are not alone and that our struggles when shared are not as impossible to overcome.Our storyWe launched this initiative at Seatoun Village Hall following the Christchurch tragedy as we saw a need to provide more space for people to share the aroha that united people across nz immediately following the attackFeedback from people who have attended our sessions over the last two years report that they have never spent such an engaging time in the company of a group of people from so many diverse backgrounds/ different communities WhyThere is power in exploring the "space in between us" in order to :*fill that space with compassion and awareness around the issues that divide us*Increase our empathy and understanding of others*awaken and challenge our own perspectives* move towards a more inclusive and welcoming society.How*We hold regular events and gatherings which nourish and enrich our participants through kai/koreo / friendly action based conversations grounded in aroha around themes which affect us all*We bring people together/ facilitate connections which provide opportunities to network for strategic develpment and create new relationships in order to strengthen the work of those whose kaupapa overlap*We collaborate with individuals/ organisations who are committed to mobilising our shared humanity*We provide a welcoming and engaging space to amplify the voices of those whose stories need to be heard and understoodJoin us Follow us on facebook and Instagram to find out about up and coming events and please do contact us if you would like top collaborate in any way.
