    Graduate Consultant
    Owc Dec 2022 - Jan 2024
Third of four one-year rotations on the International Engineering Development Scheme within ABL Group. Focus of this rotation was on conducting engineering consultancy for the offshore wind energy sector via Ports & Harbours related Engineering and Cable Engineering. Technical tasks relating to P&H Engineering included performing port assessments for a variety of projects, with a current focus on the UK. More detailed work included setting the key criteria representing an "ideal" port profile that could later be compared against known information on a number of port locations to determine their suitability in accommodating project specific technology. Additional work included high-level port screening, creation of port profiles, port engagements, port suitability assessments, port ranking and creation of high level port layout drawings. Through this role I also had responsibilities for younger team members. Cable engineering work included cable routing and landfall selection, whereby data provided via a GIS was used to establish a set of viable export cable route options and their corresponding landfall locations, with the risks associated with each of these outlined and a risk rating applied based on a pre-determined scoring criteria.

Second of four one-year rotations on the International Engineering Development Scheme within ABL Group. Focus of this rotation was on cable installation analyses and vessel motion analyses. OrcaFlex was widely used to simulate a variety of dynamic offshore cable related operations namely, SLB (simultaneous lay and burial), free lay, survival, recovery and cable crushing. Motions analyses were also conducted in which OrcaWave was used to run a diffraction analysis to calculate the vessel responses and loadings at different wave heading and wave period combinations. This information was imported into OrcaFlex to run the motions analysis. Python and Rhino were regularly used alongside the aforementioned software to run batch creator/post-processing scripts and create vessel geometry, respectively.

First of four one-year rotations on the International Engineering Development Scheme within ABL Group. Focus of this rotation was on structural engineering in way of hand calculations on cable laying vessels being mobilised for offshore maintenance, including seafastenings of HPU's, winches and containers. More complex items were modelled using STAAD.Pro with dead, live and wind loadings applied as necessary. Vessel deck layouts were also produced alongside initial stability calculations as part of a preliminary study assessing the viability of offshore windfarm installations using jack-up vessels.
