With over fifteen years of nursing experience, most of my career has been dedicated to the empathetic care of patients with behavioral health. I witnessed families caring for dementia patients on hospice who struggled with witnessing death while attempting to preserve the dignity of their loved ones. At the opposite age bracket, my adolescent addicted clients enjoyed my lesson plans on mental health diagnoses and medications almost as much as I enjoyed creating them. After winning a scholarship to study for advanced nursing, I again practiced my de-escalation techniques with survivors of domestic and sexual abuse as a forensic nurse. By collaborating with officers, social workers, lawyers, my expert recording of the incident assisting in sending a multistate serial rapist to prison. In my Internship, I practiced within my scope for two years as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, dealing with various acute mental disorders as well as psychiatric assessments and outpatient follow-ups. There I was instrumental in intervening and ultimately stopping a suicidal patient's secretive plan to end her life. My goal is to offer the best possible patient care in the most efficient and caring manner while combating stigmas and prejudices which exist around mental illness.
