I love working in HR and am a passionate advocate for my profession. I have a big HR vision and I like to tell it how it is. Professionalism means everything to me as does having the courage to share and speak out about things that are wrong or need challenging. I’ve had some experiences that have shaped who I am. Being promoted, head hunted and wining pitches for amazing businesses as an Independent HR business have been great. But being told that I have inspired someone with my insight, honesty and unique perspective feels even better.Adversity comes in many forms and always makes us stronger. I missed huge chunks of my education due to ill health. I was teenage mother and had to work hard to establish myself and progress up the steep ladder. But I was and still am, hungry, driven and energetic. I just kept going. I have survived sepsis and cancer and losing my sister far too young and these experiences have added to my insight, sharpened my resilience, fuelling my ambition (think of the phoenix) and can do attitude. But I’m also a realist and sometimes you just have to call it. People that have met me sometimes describe me as 'Ruth the Truth'.I have worked in HR for over 30 years working (for the first 20) in professional services, investment banking and the public sector holding a number of senior HR leadership roles. Working in highly regulated, exacting environments alongside very bright and demanding people created conditions for me to thrive and flourish. I ‘get it’ quickly and this is valued.Establishing my HR business, 'Amelore consulting', in May 2010 and working with a range of fast growing businesses including 'notonthehighstreet.com' was a logical progression for my career. I am a strong believer that HR is much more than compliance and creating the right culture is critical for creating competitive advantage & business success. I also occasionally support senior folk who wish to exit an organisation with a good deal, having first taken legal advice about any potential claim.I was thrilled to be recognised by industry leader ‘HR magazine’ as one of the most influential thinkers in HR in 2021 and 2022. Peer recognition is huge and I was humbled by receiving the award.
