Ruth González is a professional educator who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Teaching from the Instituto Nacional de Educación Superior (National Institute of Higher Education) from Paraguay.She works with children and youth in low-socioeconomic situations to develop core skills such as goal setting, decision making, stress management, interpersonal communication, and critical thinking through activities such as engineering challenges, project development and hands-on scientific experiments at the Benjamin Franklin Science Corner, an out-of-school program developed by the US embassy and the Scientific Society of Paraguay.Working with children and youth for the past six years in formal academic settings and out of school programs has made her passionate about narrowing the unfair gap of opportunities. She knows first-hand and understands how unbalanced the socio-economic realities are and how this affects the outcome of the education system. Ruth has been awarded with the Fulbright-CAL 2019-2020 scholarship to obtain a master’s degree in Applied Developmental Psychology. Additionally, she is enrolled in the Graduate Certificate program of the Center for the Latin American Studies (CLAS) from the University of Pittsburgh. She is studying to get the perfect combination of theory and practice to expand her thinking on creating meaningful spaces for civic learning and educational opportunities that will serve as the breeding ground for future social transformations in Paraguay.
