About Ruth Tau

I'm an electrical engineering student at UBC. Since I was little, I have dreamed of becoming a creative engineer, and I have a passion for improving and inventing technology that impacts our lives. I carried this passion throughout my life, such as getting involved in the robotics team, competing in competitions, self-learning new software and getting myself involved in the projects/ engineering field as much as possible with opportunities given. I believe I am adaptive, ambitious, analytical and industrious. This summer, I was engaged in an R&D project at UBC School of Biomedical Engineering, collaborating with Justin Wyss, a Ph.D. candidate, on the development of a pressure-assistive smart sheet device aimed at preventing pressure injuries. This project holds significant personal importance to me, as my grandfather's struggle with pressure injuries fuels my dedication to finding solutions in healthcare. Through this endeavour, I have honed my technical prowess and nurtured essential soft skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking.Last summer, I was honoured to work with Abraham Innovations for the second time as an assistant automation system design analyst. I was given a chance to demonstrate my abilities in problem-solving, self-learning and keeping a harmonious relationship with the staff. I was tasked with designing an electrical system for a new aluminum packaging automation system. The system was complex and required careful planning and execution. I was able to successfully design and implement the system, meeting all of the customer's requirements, utilizing Beckhoff systems and KUKA robots. I also conducted mechanical simulations to illustrate the workflow of the operation, honing my problem-solving skills and analytical mindset.โš–๏ธ ๐–๐จ๐ซ๐ค ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐œHence, I firmly believe I can adapt to great challenges even though I have little or no experience in that task. I never give up searching for the best solution and solving problems. During my free time, I like making short films and videos and shooting cinematic footage. Making films is my form of expression, and I feel satisfied and accomplished when my videos can connect with people with the same feelings or experiences. I hope the work I put out can have a good influence on others such as seeing them smile after watching my videos.
