I love challenges. Challenging myself to get a little bit better every day, but also challenging and inspiring others. I enjoy those tasks or assignments no one else is willing to try. Or to learn a new skill or explore a new field of expertise. It gives me great pleasure to see those around me surprise themselves with their achievements.In 2009 I took on one of my personal challenges by competing in the Ironman South Africa; a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run. All in one day. But the challenge was not so much that day, but more the months of disciplined training, making choices and to push myself beyond all boundaries. And coming to the conclusion that there aren't any boundaries.The journey was not an easy one, An injury, extreme weather in South Africa on race day and my inexperience with triathlons in general were to be conquered. And so I did. My "secret"? Focussing on what I could do, instead of being distracted or even demotivated by the circumstances that were against me. And also to celebrate each small success (a training completed, a mile covered on race day). After more than 16 hours I crossed the finish line.
