Formulations and Drug Delivery• Developed novel polymeric micelle systems to deliver short chain fatty acids to the small intestine or the colon aiming to treat food allergy or inflammatory bowel disease• Research results on polymeric micelles are technical foundations for a startup named ClostraBio Inc.• Established an appropriate delivery system for a novel adjuvant through screening polymersomes, polymeric micelles, or polymeric nanoparticles• Enhanced the drug loading by optimizing organic solvents, polymer/drug ratio, sonication condition, and lyophilizing condition• Synthesized a tumor-targeting drug through reversible conjugation of paclitaxel and collagen-binding protein; prevented the aggregation of the conjugate by incorporating a PEG linker• Collaborated with the immunology team to validate the efficacy of drug formulation in the mouse allergy model or tumor modelCharacterization of Polymers and Nanoparticles• Modulated block length of polymers using controlled RAFT polymerization and determined the molecular weight using NMR, GPC, and MALDI-TOF• Characterized the size and morphology of nano-scale polymer-drug formulations using DLS or electron microscope• Examined the biodistribution and pharmacokinetics of nanoparticles and released drugs both in vitro and in vivo using IVIS, GPC, GC, and HPLC• Collaborated with polymer physics team to reveal the micelle-micelle interactions using SAXS• Communicated with facility manager to troubleshoot the usage of characterization equipment

Member of probe synthesis group with the aim of synthesizing unnatural sugars as fluorescenttags or label-free Raman tags; capable of doing common organic synthesis; having synthesized analkynyl derivative of fucose called “FucoseAl” successfully through nine reactions.2. Participator of a research project on cell surface glycans, using force spectroscopy provided byatomic force microscope (AFM) with chemical modified tips to study the distribution of glycans on cell surfaces and to study the interaction between glycans and antibodies; trained with cell culture and cell experiment skills.3. In charge of the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in Professor Chen’s group; using preparative, semi-preparative or analytical columns to purify or identify organic compounds.

Member of the Cross-disciplinary Scholars in Science and Technology program, working in Professor Paul Weiss group at University of California, Los Angeles.Participator of the peptide assembly project,using infrared spectroscopy(IR) to study secondarystructures of model peptides and β-amyloid peptides; using AFM to study the self-assembled monolayer of peptides on graphite surfaces; calculating the lamellar width of the assembly to acquire structural information.
