With an MSc in Software Engineering and a PhD in AI I am uniquely skilled to develop research into a product. I lead my teams from the trenches and by example, achieving high-quality results under tight deadlines.Following my PhD, I was awarded a two-year postdoctoral fellowship from the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology to work on applied optimisation problems at the Cork Constraint Computation Centre, the foremost research centre on automated decision making at the time, and one of the top AI research centres in the world. Amongst others, I worked with Bausch&Lomb on evaluating manufacturing plant design changes, with Intel to design better schedules for their implant operations, with Alcatel-Lucent to schedule the workflow through a reconfigured plant, and with the Irish Navy to improve ship maintenance schedules.Around 2010, I became involved in a project to commercialise the centre's research. After months of honing our business plan, this lead to the creation of ThinkSmart Technologies. I transitioned to become the lead engineer and created our Intellify software platform for optimisation and analytics. We achieved some success in applying our platform to optimisation problems (working with one of the largest asset managers in the world on scheduling their in-house software development, with a multinational financial services company to hedge their foreign exchange exposure and one of the biggest home improvement retailers in the world on managing their rental equipment). However, after a small project on Location Analytics took off and generated a lot of traction, we pivoted and made it our sole focus.In 2012, our company and location analytics solution was acquired by Cisco. A testament to the quality of the platform we had built, it was integrated with their Connected Mobile eXperience product within months. I spent the next few years improving the product, before moving to the Network Data Platform team working as a senior technical leader. Here I built a data-analytics platform that ingests events from all devices on a network, and exposes aggregated data via an API.Not long after the successful product launch of the first version of the platform, I was approached to join Text IQ. At that time it was still a small startup, yet already one of world's top 5 AI companies in Risk & Regulatory Compliance. Here, I've helped grow the team from a handful of engineers to over 20, worked on improving the scalability, reliability, deployability and security of our products, as well as help build new ones from scratch.
