After doing graphical design work for years Pro Bono I decided to start, in 2009, my own company Watermelon Design to make some extra money while I was studying. I designed everything that could be printed and arranged the printing for the clients. I also worked closely with some printing companies.

After my graduation I started working for Yakima EU, a company that designs and manufactures cargo management solutions. Their vision is to carry more cargo on the outside of the vehicle to have more space inside the car to take more friends and family with you. One of the brands of Yakima is Whispbar, the premium brand in the cargo management business. In my role as Industrial Design Engineer, I was responsible for designing and developing the connecting parts that were required to secure the universal roofbars of Whispbar on every vehicle in the European market. Although the roofbars were universal, the “fits” that connect them had to be tailor made for every model.I designed special rubber pads to protect the roof. These were injection moulded parts that were capable of handling all the forces and metal fasteners. These parts were also required to pass numerous tests like UV and salt spray tests. After the design was made, I had to make the prototypes and then create the technical file package with technical drawings, BOMS and instruction manual. Once I received the factory samples, I checked and tested the product on the vehicle again to see everything was premium looking and safe.After working for almost a year as an Industrial Design Engineer for Yakima Europe, the company identified that the amount of work that had to be done was too much for just one person so they added two Industrial Design Engineers and a Documents Administrator. In addition to my job as Industrial Design Engineer, I then became responsible for the whole EU Fit Department and had to project manage every fit that was made. On average, there were 60 fits in process that I guided from design, through prototyping, testing and production until they arrived in the warehouse. To manage this, I worked closely with our offices in Australia, the USA and China. I was also required to travel to these offices and the factory in China to work on specific projects and improve production processes.
