My LinkedIn tag line introduces me first as a “Skilled Generalist”. Right from the very beginning of my professional career as a young engineer, I’ve always taken pride in my ability to roll up my sleeves, figure it out, and get it done. This coupled with a strong sense of integrity and a naturally inquisitive and analytical mind, has stood me in good stead regardless of the challenge encountered, or the roll fulfilled. Maturity has also brought with it not only the skills required to lead, work with, ,and work for the people around me, but also a deep appreciation for the context I find myself in, and how best to align myself with it. My initial youthful idealism has been tempered in time with a healthy understanding of the pragmatism often needed to be successful within the higher rungs of an organisation. With my academic background being within the Engineering and Business Administration spheres, I’ve been lucky enough to have had a multitude of opportunities professionally, but my true underlying skill still remains my interest in understanding the things around me, and my ability to climb in, figure it out, and get it done. No introduction to Ryan Magner would be complete without at least a brief mention of my passion for classic cars. My exposure to the world of the “antiquated” motor vehicle, both professionally and as an interest, has not only given me a somewhat unique appreciation for where we have come from as a society, but also a fanatical eye for detail, and a deep appreciation for form and beauty.
