Normalizing mental healthcare and wellness, especially amongst BIPOC communities, is very important to me. We can have access to these resources. We can heal. We can break generational trauma. We can find ways to deal with depression and anxiety. I want to be an advocate, a cheerleader, a resource, and an example that when we start putting our healing first, it will start to improve every other area and relationship in our lives. I’ve had a lot of jobs that have prepared me for work as a therapist. I’ve worked with the public in many facets in retail, healthcare, I interned at a local news station and a record company. I even worked for the Census one summer as an enumerator. After getting my Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, I worked as a freelance writer and decided to go back to school and obtain a license for skin care and make-up. I did this while maintaining a full time job in the medical field at a cancer facility in Detroit. However, as the make-up and vision board parties started to shift focus towards inner beauty, setting goals, and being unapologetic about one’s confidence, I realized that it’s too many of us who suffer in silence. After doing some healing work of my own with a counselor, I made it my mission to introduce others to the possibility of living another way. So I decided to go back to school (again) for counseling and am currently working towards full licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I am passionate about mental health awareness and look forward to hosting workshops and seminars to educate my community about the benefits of wellness, and encourage the building up of relationships. My goal is to inspire positive change, help families understand their resilience, and encourage others that healing is possible.
