About Rob Warner

Rob Warner's passion for all things sports and fashion, and that which connects them, goes back to the heyday of the late 90s. Today, Rob can be found channelling more than two decades’ experience at leading UAE-born gymwear brand, SQUATWOLF.In his role as Chief Innovation Officer & Partner, Rob spends his days finding new, creative methods to further improve the technology and functionality of SQUATWOLF’s products. His journey within the Fashion Design industry began with a degree BA (Hons) in Fashion Design with Technology from Manchester Metropolitan University, which resulted in an immediate hire by PUMA UK and a quick transfer to HQ in Germany. During his six-year tenure with the company, Rob eventually led the apparel design team across all performance divisions as Creative Directing Manager.Rob’s achievements at PUMA included designing the first ever fully-bonded football shirt, worn by 2006 World Cup winner Italy, and the uniform worn by Usain Bolt at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.Rob was recruited by Nike shortly after their takeover of the historic football brand, Umbro. Rob’s final role in Manchester was Creative Director, leading design and development across all product categories. His most recent corporate assignment was Design Vice President at lululemon in Vancouver, Canada. Working across performance, lifestyle and innovation, Rob’s international experience played a part in the exponential growth of the men’s division. In 2016, Rob created Spark with his close friend and business partner, Craig Buglass. Leveraging their experience as global creative directors, they help brands on their journey, visualising what the future could and should look like, and strengthening the way they connect to their audience.Early 2021 saw the launch of Spark Design Academy, a place for transformational courses for those with that creative spark. In his role at SQUATWOLF, Rob is drawing on the greatest hits of his career to create insight-driven innovations that will change the game.

Spark Design Academy is an informative, experience-backed approach to the fashion industry, where we’ll be discussing the realities of working in fashion and design. The academy is a remote tutoring experience. After unlocking a course, they can be followed at any pace and even repeated if necessary. While the courses will be available indefinitely, when we release a new course, we’ll be offering a 1-to-1 Catalyst Programme with private tutoring opportunities from Craig, myself, or any guest tutors we may bring in.There’s no concrete way to assure a career in fashion, and there are no set steps you can follow to guarantee it. What’s important is making the small steps to self-growth and self-betterment that improve your chances. Spark Design Academy is just that, a series of small steps, an arm around the shoulder that will teach the practical skills, industry insights, and product knowledge you need to work your way into the industry.

    Spark. Mar 2016 - Present

Through my creative consultancy, Spark, I have been able to lead a virtual business that isn’t restricted by location, nor defined by the skills and influences of a finite workforce. With my unique vision, I can combine the core strengths of creativity, commerciality, and inspirational leadership to build compelling collections and high-performing design teams.Unlike a typical agency with a rigid set-up, we can activate the right people for a specific brief and give them the opportunity to work on projects that match their expertise, from wherever they choose to be. With nothing holding us back, we have an office in every city and no limits to what we can create.I’ve had a number of career highlights I'm immensely proud of, including designing sportswear for the World Cup and Olympic gold medal winners. But what drives me isn’t the accolade; it’s about delivering the best product possible. All it takes is one Spark.
