We deal with patients who have ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) and come to us for different procedures such as Angioplasty, Catheter Exchanges/insertions/Removals etc. Before the patient comes in, I verify their insurance with Medicare, Medicaid and commercial policies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Humana among many others. I also follow up with insurance companies on the status of authorizations when they take longer than they should as a patient should never have to worry about their claims or payment, instead they should only have to focus on taking care of themselves and getting better. I had to go after the insurance companies more often than not due to them not wanting to pay on the claims, even though the claims were legitimate. I also worked accounts over 90 days, collecting from Medicare, Medicaid and other 3rd party insurances. I also worked daily on the government team which helped with the filing of claims to Medicare, Tenncare, Medicare Replacements and their Supplemental plans as well as out of state Medicaid. In order to accomplish this work a variety of computer systems were utilized for verification of benefits which include insurance websites, a system called EPIC, as well as a system called Star Panel which housed all patient chart information. Once verification was completed it was then put into a system called MediPak, and was then converted over to Protect which would conclude the verification transfer.
