As an Electrician / Marine Systems Manager for the Royal Australian Navy, I handle the operation, repair and maintenance of the submarine’s electrical systems and equipment. I play an integral role for the engineering effort by keeping the submarine operational. I maintain power generation and distribution equipment, control systems for hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, crucial water purification equipment and air conditioning systems.Having a keen eye for detail, I recognise trends that impact the functions and operations of the submarine ensuring it is running at their optimal capacity and take action if necessary. I collaborate with the team under the guidance of an engineering officer in handling state of the art equipment. Being extremely meticulous, I inspect equipment ensuring submarine remains operational. I establish, continuously manage and complete daily rounds maintaining keen attention to details, alertness and precision at all times. I manage the troubleshooting engineering breakdowns, authorisation of tag out and lock outs for planned and corrective maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, power generation and distribution systems and battery bank maintenance. With a forward thinking approach, I assume responsibility for the operation and maintenance of different machinery and associated systems throughout the submarine. I install, examine, replace and repair electrical equipment such as motors, control devices, brushes and bearings. I maintain, repair, test and control electrical motors, alternators, internal storage batteries, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems. I conduct vibration analysis collection and refueling supervision maintaining utmost safety of personnel and machinery. I head the team as engineering officer of the watch (Marine Systems Manager) and Confined Space Supervisor.
