I am an active duty Coast Guard officer. I graduated in the top 6% of my class (#13 of 214) with high honors from the United States Coast Guard Academy, and was hand selected to represent the Coast Guard during a one-semester exchange program at the United States Air Force Academy. At the rank of Ensign (ENS/O1), I became one of the youngest Operations Officers in the Reliance Class Medium Endurance Cutter fleet (a role normally filled by a Lieutenant (LT/O3)). I also served as second in command (Executive Officer) of a forward-deployed Island Class Patrol Boat operating in the Arabian Gulf for one year in support of US Navy Fifth Fleet and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. At the age of 25, I served as Commanding Officer of two Marine Protector Class Coastal Patrol Boats, taking command of a Cutter at the earliest stage available to Coast Guard Officers. I was then selected as one of eight Coast Guard Officers to attend law school as part of the Coast Guard's Funded Legal Education Program. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law as #1 out of 196 graduates, having earned 15 CALI Excellence for the Future Awards (Book Awards) for earning the top score in 15 classes. I also wrote and published an article in the Florida Law Review, "Foreign Territorial Sea-zures: Article I Supports the Application of the Maritime Drug Law Enforcement Act to Drug Trafficking Within Foreign Territorial Seas," 74 Fla. L.
