Product Validation Engineers provide the organization with the analysis, verification and validation testing of component or sub-system specific to the product being developed. Within Cummins, the required skills are dependant on the product or system being developed. The expectations of an engineer responsible for development/analysis is that the individual has the necessary skills to plan and execute analysis and tests using standard methodology and to provide input to complete design iterations based on cross-functional inputs, analysis and design inputs. This role contains the core technical skills to cover all product development/analysis engineers. Key processes, tools, or methods used: Validation/Analysis Engineers operate within a standard, structured development process, either Technology Design For Six Sigma (TDFSS) for technology development, Value Package Introduction (VPI) for major system development, or Value Package Change (VPC) process for derivative, tailoring, and maintenance of systems. They use six sigma processes and tools -- TDFSS, Design For Six Sigma (DFSS), Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) -- for capabilities or system design elements that are New, Unique, and Difficult (NUD). They conduct system requirements and iFMEAs and, if necessary, Hazard Analyses to ensure product risks are understood and appropriately addressed in the system designs. They use Validation management tools and requirements management tools. Typically they work in technical organizations across the corporation. They may be an engineer working across the corporation in worldwide technical center groups, plants and/or other areas across engine business units.
