Postdoctoral Fellow
CurrentMy research focuses on defining the early events in colorectal cancer (CRC) initiation and progression, as well as developing therapeutic strategies to prevent or intercept CRC pathogenesis. My current projects involve both NCI-funded contracts in addition to testing experimental compounds from private pharmaceutical companies using both in vivo models combined with in vitro cell culture assays.
Phd Student
PhD student Dr. Rosenberg Lab Center for Molecular Oncology (June 2019-present)My project involves a multi-faceted approach for the prevention of Colon Cancer. My primary efforts are focused on two PREVENT contracts for the National cancer Institute, investigating the role of two pharmaceutical pipeline drugs alone or in combination with NSAIDs for the prevention of Colon Cancer in Polyposis in Rat Colon (PIRC) animals. These project involve navigating federal, state, and corporate rules and regulations for successful collaborations. Being able to bridge the gap between academia and industry is critical in running a successful multi-institution collaboration. I am also conducting a NIH funded grant on the use of Ellagic Acid and its microbially-derived Urolithins for Colon Cancer prevention. This grant incorporates microbiome expertise in combination with molecular biology techniques to elucidate novel mechanisms of the anti-neoplastic effect of Urolithins on Colon Epithelium. These projects together can advance our knowledge of Colon Cancer and lead to better therapeutics for the future. PhD Rotation Student Dr. Adam Adler lab at UConn health. (January 2019-June 2019)In this lab we utilized co-stimulatory molecule agonists for OX-40 (CD134) and 4-1BB (CD137) to synergize in their function to promote an increased T cell-mediated immune response for treating implanted cancers. PhD Rotation Student at Oh Lab at Jackson Laboratory of Genomic Medicine (August 2018-January 2019)My work involved elucidating the immune regulating functions/metabolites of certain microbes in various disease states. Utilizing advanced cultureomic approaches to isolate microbes of interest from patient samples to conduct Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) to find novel microbes and gene pathways associated with metabolites that regulate immune cells. By this method we can hypothesize which microbes can advance or repress immune activation in certain tissues.
Research Scientist I
Developed and refined high-throughput Microbiome DNA sequencing assay for multiple sample types. Managed workgroups for WGS and multiplexed sequencing for Illumina and PacBio sequencers. Developed high-throughput CRISPR DNA purification technology. Specialized in DNA purification and manipulations. Managed team for protocol development and documentation surrounding products offered and products being developed.
Research Assistant
Managed collaborations and projects for assay development. Performed assay development and protocol implementation in a fast and exciting field. Contributed to patent and grant applications.
Laboratory Intern
Performed Laser Calture Microdissection on mouse brain tissue to isolate components of the brain microvasculature for genetic profiling. Also, pipelined a method for creating high quality RNA isolation protocols that are capable of being made into RNA-Seq libraries.
