Since relocating to Kalamazoo in 2016 has taken on freelance work for a variety of area publications including online business magazine Second Wave Media and prep sports publication joeinsider.com. In addition, has conducted market-based research for Meyers, LLC focusing on the real estate climate in Philadelphia and New York City, since early 2018.While in Colorado, worked periodically as a freelance writer and editor from 2007-2016, picking up assignments on the side, including reworking award applications and policy manuals for private companies and nonprofits on a contractual basis, conducting video interviews on musical documentary projects and covering sports for multiple publications. Freelance credits pertaining to sports include writing for The Minneapolis Star Tribune, The Oregonian and The Boulder Daily Camera on an as-needed basis as the teams/programs they covered came to the area. Also wrote feature stories and provided game coverage for Score Publishing, which had multiple publications focusing on all four major sports in Colorado, as well as Denver-based hockey magazine, Rubber, and CollegeHockeyNews.com.

Castle Rock, Colorado

Worked in a full-time capacity in temporary position designed to increase visibility of county’s role in citizens’ lives; educating/informing public of governmental decision-making, volunteer opportunities, calls to action and community events. Performed work independently and as an integral member of the county’s communication team. Roles and highlights included:• Launched and managed county’s online newsroom that went live in January 2015.• Developed annual editorial calendar with focus on curating content specific to five board goals of personal and public safety; multimodal transportation; natural resources; economic foundations; and community/human services, in addition to veterans and senior-related features and news. • Wrote upward of 10 newsroom stories and traditional releases per week, pairing these with strong images and video to post in newsroom and share through social media and with local media outlets. • Grew the county’s e-subscriber list and twitter following exponentially through the deliverance of timely, engaging and humanized content and elevated use of social media.• Through creation of calendar and stories of annual business and calls to action, set the communications team up for success, providing more than 100 templates for future use prior to position's end date. • Additional duties included writing, updating and editing other web copy to keep county site current, relevant and user-friendly as possible. This included, but was not limited to reworking entire sections of site, writing elected official bios, writing award applications and editing newsletters.

Highlands Ranch, Colorado

Following four years split between Woodland Park and Monument, Colorado, working my way up from sports writer to managing editor for the company's two southern papers, transferred to CCM's south metro headquarters to work as the lead reporter/community editor for the company's largest newspaper, The Highlands Ranch Herald prior to advancing again.After a year-plus with the Herald covering features, sports, music, local government and news throughout Douglas County, moved back into management, serving as assistant editor for the company's eight weekly south metro publications, helping to manage and grow audiences for 11 websites, budgeting multiple newspapers on a weekly basis, overseeing and assisting in layout of all eight papers, while working with reporters one on one and in team settings. Throughout time at CCM, gained valuable experience writing and editing copy, budgeting newspapers, and managing staff, websites and financial budgets. Additionally, earned first-place awards through the Colorado Press Association for business reporting, feature writing, enterprise writing and sports coverage, and also received awards for deadline news reporting, headline writing, health coverage, story/picture combination, general news coverage and agriculture writing.
