I’m a chemistry guy. I like creating chemical reactions, transforming matter into different forms, and understanding how chemistry governs the world I live in. In college, I discovered the world of chemical and biomolecular engineering which takes chemistry to an entirely different level. It’s a world of chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering design all rolled up together. In this world, mass balance equations, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and process control became my playground. The best part about chemical and biomolecular engineering is that you’re using the laws of physics and chemistry to find solutions to real world problems faced by companies. Through my job as a process engineer for an engineering consulting company, I get to be a part of how a design on paper comes to life and makes a difference in improving a production process for a company. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to work on plant production improvement projects for an international beverage company, a multinational chain of coffeehouses and roasteries, and a global food processing company.Currently, I’ve been focused on the implementation part of a production improvement project. Through that project, I’ve learned a few things. Despite all the planning that goes into a project, the implementation process is always a minefield filled with unexpected issues that pop up. Through working on projects, I’ve developed an intuition of recognizing potential problems and fixing them before they become major issues. When I’m not working on process engineering projects, you can find me disk golfing with friends, building a computer, or on the ski slopes.
