My first role with Chicago Public Schools was as a Spanish Language Arts teacher at Kelvyn Park High School, a school in Network 14, in the Hermosa neighborhood. In this role, I quickly began to identify opportunities for improving the student experience within the World Language Department, and I organized my colleagues to support me in becoming the World Language Department Chair by my 3rd year. As a former WL Department Chair, I have a proven track record of modernizing World Language Departments. I have collaborated with administrative teams to transform course offerings from foreign language to Heritage Language Arts courses, meeting the needs of Spanish-speaking students. In addition, I became Dual Credit certified so that students were able to take World Language courses for three years, rather than the state-mandated two, and achieve college credit for free.I accepted my current role in 2023. I work as a Bilingual Teacher in the English department at Thomas Kelly College Preparatory, a school in Network 16, in the Brighton Park Community. I currently serve on the Professional Personnel Leadership Committee and I am also a founding member of the school's Culture and Climate Team.
