Contracted by TEK Systems to work on a PC refresh project at the Ford Truck Plant. The scope of the project is to replace old Dell PCs that are at the end of their lease, with new Dell PCs. Both desktops, and laptops, are being replaced. The PCs are imaged by the field technicians before they are deployed. During the refresh process the field technicians backup the data on the old machine, then transfer it to the new PC.

Desktop Support Technician

Contracted for a 3 month Desktop Support roll with NTT Data to help out with a large scale project, and to help out with other tasks, at Conifer Health Systems. The scope of the project was to move each employee from their current cubicle, to a new cubicle on a different floor. Each move included moving each user’s computer, and phone, to their new cubicle. After moving the equipment, the computer and phone was setup and tested, then new printers were mapped and the applications were tested, so that users were able to continue working. Was also responsible for imaging computers for new users, creating new computer and user accounts in Active Directory, resetting user passwords and solving computer hardware and software problems.

Was contracted by Konica Minolta to help install 2800 Zebra label printers in several Norton Hospital locations in downtown Louisville, and the outer Louisville area. The installation included building and installing brackets onto wall mounted computer systems, as well as, computer systems that were mounted on mobile carts. Also, a part of the installation, the Zebra label printers were configured, and calibrated, prior to installation. Wrote technical white paper that explained how to install, and configure printers, so that Norton IT technicians would have instructions on how to install printers on new wall mounted, and mobile, computer systems that would be placed in the field, after the initial installation of the 2800 printers was finished.

As a Service Desk Technician, I was part of a team of service desk technicians that provided Tier 1 Help Desk phone support for Sempra Energy, in California. The company has over 14,000 employees and each technician handled anywhere from 20 to 40 calls a day. As a full time Associate Engineer, I worked out of the home, and performed break/fix repairs on PCs, Tablets, Phones, TVs, Laptops, and Printers. This was a 100% travel position. The repairs were performed face to face, either at the customer’s home, or at a place of business. I handled a wide variety of customers, and I set my own daily schedule to meet their needs. Most of them were easy going, but some were more difficult and required special attention and care. All repairs were performed on warranty products from Dell, Lenovo, HP, and Lexmark. Before repairs were performed, I was responsible for evaluating the products and, making sure that the units qualified for warranty service. I also had to contact the hardware vendors and work with them to get additional parts, or replacement parts for DOA parts.

This was a 100% travel position with a coverage area that included the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. The systems included both Inkjet and LaserJet printers, as well as, order kiosks powered by Windows XP, Dymo label printers, dye sublimation printers for 8x10 photos, CD replicators, and HP Procurve networking equipment. After the HP Instant Print systems were installed, the Walmart Photo employees were trained to use, and maintain the systems. In addition to installing the HP systems, I was also tasked with repairing systems that had already been installed.

My official title at Geek Squad City was Super Senior Counter-Intelligence Agent, which is a different name for Senior Technician, or a Level 3 Technician. Geek Squad City is a Best Buy service center that repairs desktop and notebook computers for Best Buy customers from all across the country. We used well known hardware diagnostic software (Memtest, PC Check, and others) to diagnose hardware issues. We also performed virus removals, driver reinstalls, registry edits, O/S re-installs, and a variety of other software fixes when needed. Work was done on units that were in and out of warranty. I was promoted to the senior technician position during my first year with the company. As a senior technician, I supervised 3 other technicians, and also trained new technicians when needed.
