My graduate research focused on the isolation and structure elucidation of natural products from a variety of source organisms including microbes and marine invertebrates. I gained experience in synthetic organic methodology and medicinal chemistry, and worked closely with a diverse group of collaborators. My thesis topics included: isolation and synthesis of potent indolamine-2,3-dioxygenase inhibitors from a marine sponge, mechanism of action studies on a marine alkaloid which displayed correction of cystic fibrosis in vitro, isolation of a novel family of Mycobacterium tuberculosis inhibitory compounds from a Pacific Northwest native mushroom, and isolation of a new family of meroterpenoids with insecticidal activity from a Sri Lankan fungus.Apart from my research, I was a teaching assistant in the UBC Chemistry department. I held a variety of positions including demonstrator for first year chemistry (Chem 121-123) and lecturer for the introductory organic chemistry laboratory courses (Chem 235).

I assisted graduate students with several projects involving marine natural products and chemical ecology. I completed an honors thesis studying the antimicrobial compounds produced by an orchid native to Vietnam.
