Hello! My name is Ryan DeVries and in the spring of 2019 I graduated the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology(with a concentration in Microbiology) and a minor in Informatics. I've recently graduated from a Master's program in Bioinformatics(Information Sciences Concentration) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Through my studies I've become proficient in Python, R, SQL, and the Unix command line. I have applied the knowledge I've obtained by using what I have learned on an independent research project the last two years invovling Lipidomic data, Metabolomic data, and RNA-Seq data. Some things I have done for my research project include: running RNA-Seq analysis using Salmon and STAR on a campus supercomputer using custom Unix scripts, run statistics on lipidomic/metabolomic data to identify trends, and do a large amount of data wrangling/cleaning using Excel. I've also developed an interest in machine learning, I just turned in a pretty interesting final project using a Random Forest Regressor to predict weather data in Champaign, IL! I would ideally like to work somewhere where my skills can directly help people(such as working on cancer genomics or other Bioinformatics projects); however, I would also be interested in being a data scientist/analyst as I have found I like to build models!
