Architecture: I am a member of the Technical Architecture Group steering committee for ecobee. I design key security features in firmware, backend, cloud, and mobile for the IoT product lines. I am contributing to the design of a new AWS cloud and secure devops practices for the Clean Energy group.Development: I frequently prototype ideas to de-risk potential solutions. I am the technical lead for all things security and am consulted as the SME for many technologies including PKI, Vault, OpenSSL, and mTLS.Pentesting: I have performed very successful pentests leading to a major engineering effort to improve security across the entire solution.Compliance: I am leading a major engineering effort to achieve ISO 27001 certification. My strategy is to have security and compliance largely achieved through engineering best practices with a minimal number of additional security requirements to cover the gaps.Risk and Vulnerability Management: I perform threat modelling (STRIDE/other) and do risk and vulnerability management. I have led efforts to greatly reduce risks across the business unit.Leadership: I rely on soft influence and heavy use of mentorship to improve security in cross-functional teams. My role has a heavy management component necessary to coordinate and plan activities for both short-term and long-term initiatives.

I was originally hired to be the principal security engineer for ecobee where assumed duties for incident response, IT security, application security, hiring, mentoring, penetration testing, and security design reviews.
