Bid Manager and Technical Lead for the successful Govan Partick Bridge Tender in Glasgow. I worked with the team to develop the methodology for this £30 Million three span cable stayed swing bridge. I lead the decision to maximise off site fabrication by forming a collaborative team with strategic supply chain partners. This provided cost savings while deriving a safer, higher quality end product that will cause less disruption to the live navigation channel on the River Clyde. I worked with the team to rationalise our method around the existing quay extensions, dredging works, marine cofferdam and in-river bridge pier construction, which underpinned our successful tender. I was responsible for interrogating the Client’s design and specification to select the correct methodology allowing Farrans to submit the most economically advantageous tender. I also compiled and lead the contract review and negotiated amended NEC3 Option A terms with the Client prior to tender submission.

I also compiled and lead the contract review and negotiated terms around the amended NEC4 Option A terms with the Client prior to tender submission.

The scheme has recently been granted funding and planning consent and is due to commence on site January 2021. Supervision of riverworks section on the 340m span cable-stayed bridge across the River Wear, Sunderland.Responsibilities included:- Management of installation 30x15x10m deep King Post/Sheet Combi Wall, associated framing, drainage and excavation using marine based plant.- Liason with Port authority on pile delivery and transit up-river using modular pontoons.- Management of installation of 10 No 1.5m dia 30m deep rotary bored LDA Piles from a temporary works frame installed ontop of the cofferdam allowing installation of the piles in dry conditions.- Installation of Temporary Supports consisting of vertical and raking steel tubular piles using a leader rig working from a Jack-Up Barge.- Successful planning and delivery of 28 hr 1400 cu.m reinforced concrete base pour using 2 no 140m long static line pumps.- Construction of Pylon Tusks and temporary works enabling sucessful erection of 1550T x 105m Steel Pylon.- Design and installation of Temporary Access bridge enabling pedestrian and service transfer from shore to river works. Access bridge was formed by re-using piling gates from pile installation.- Successful completion of holding down connection within Pylon including a combination of post-tensioned Dywidag threadbars and reinforced concrete.- Marine demolition/removal of all cofferdam and temporary works post bridge completion.

The Quay wall was constructed over both land and water using steel combi tube and sheet pile wall tied back to a piled anchor beam with intermediate concrete bearing piles supporting a reinforced concrete relieving slab. Works also include dredging of the berth and approaches in the region of 500,000m3 to be disposed off to sea with treatment and disposal of some contaminated material to land. Behind the new quay there is 50 acres of hinterland to receive of a heavy duty unbound pavement construction with associated site servicesResponsibilities included:- Supervision and setting out of two piling squads for the 480m long quay wall structure.- Drilling of piles to achieve final depths using Rotary Bored Piling Rigs.- Supervision of installation of approx 800 no 750mm dia CFA's up to 30m depth.- Supervision of and installation 360 no raking tubes to form anhor wall including 180 no ground anchors- Installation of Anker Schroeder tie rods tying combi-wall to anchor wall.- Supervision of FRC works on Anchor Beam, Slab and Cope Beam ranging form 250 cu.m to 800 cu.m.- Installation of Fenders.- Supervision of dredging and rock armour placement works.
