Americans have become easy targets for excessive loans, which they are stuck paying for years whether they are working in a field related to their education or not. Our mission is to help young adults find the most efficient path to a career they want, saving them time and money.

Ryan is one of the Taser instructors for the Roseburg Police Department. This course provides the basic operational theory and practical training to instruct police officers to reasonably safely and effectively operate Taser CEWs. The course covers the TASER X26, X26P and X2 CEWs, and will certify those who successfully complete the course. The course also includes several drills and exercises requiring physical exertion. Drills include: non-firing drills, firing drills, isolation exercises, stress courses, and scenarios.

Ryan is one of the Roseburg Police Department Field Training Officers. The Roseburg Police Department recognizes the need for quality training and therefore only has a select few training officers. As a training officer Ryan clearly communicates the expectation of training, teaches the trainee the policies of the department, correctly applies concepts learned in the classroom to field training operations, and evaluates the trainee on his or her progress in the grogram. Ultimately, Ryan is responsible for making sure the trainee’s shift duties are performed property and completely.

As a police officer Ryan regularly investigates misdemeanor and felony crimes; interviews complainant(s) and witnesses; interrogates suspects, both adult and juvenile; prepares full and comprehensive reports regarding those investigations; makes arrests based on his investigations, and testifies in court concerning those investigations. As a lead police K9 handler, Ryan has diligently worked to develop his abilities to use operant conditioning to train and work with both police dogs and people. As a K9 handler Ryan has demonstrated his abilities as he has located over 180 criminal suspects, numerous missing children, suicidal adults, and elderly people with medical conditions. Ryan also represents the Roseburg Police Department as a public speaker. He has participated in hundreds of public demonstrations, talks, news interviews, fundraising activities, and public question and answer sessions. As part of orchestrating those demonstrations, he has built a working relationship with outside groups to help set up venues, promote upcoming demonstrations, contact outside agencies to solicit their participation, arrange for speakers, and conduct news briefings and interviews. As a Master Officer, he assumes supervisory responsibilities regularly; similar to those as a Corporal or Sergeant. As a K9 handler he is regularly asked to participate in high-risk suspect searches and apprehensions. As part of that role, he has taken over many crime scenes both for his agency and outside agencies. It is regularly necessary during those times for him to move resources and personnel around to where they are most needed to ensure a safe and successful deployment. This has required him to build and maintain good working relationship with outside agencies so that he can facilitate the supervisory duties that are necessary while moving other agencies personnel around.

Ryan has a passion for teaching. This has led to him volunteering regularly to assists the Roseburg Police Department Defensive Tactics team with instructing classes and conducting scenarios.

Ryan has a passion for both outdoor sports and teaching. This has led to him teach numerous small snowboarding classes each winter. Ryan’s classes cover the basic skills of beginner snowboarding and mountain safety. The average class size is two students. During the class students learn new techniques while refining specific skills.

Ryan taught private kayaking and white water rafting classes. The classes were skills based and tailored to fit the needs of the participants. As a self-defense instructor, Ryan teaches small classes and private lessons. The focus in the class is self-awareness and personal improvement. The class instruction is derived from a combination of Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, kickboxing, and ground fighting.

Ryan started a small residential carpet cleaning company. As the owner of the business, he hired three employees and taught them how to operate the equipment. Ryan ran the company for four years and then sold it for a small profit.

The Roseburg branch of Boy Scouts of America contacted Ryan and requested assistance with teaching scouts how to rock climb and rappel. As the lead instructor Ryan developed the class curriculum and assembled a team of instructors. As a group, they led rock climbing and rappelling expeditions. The classes started with basic safety instructions and simple rappels. The class ended with a four hundred foot rappel off an overhanging cliff. The class was fun and required students to learn new skills while overcoming personal fears.

Ryan attended a yearlong residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Roseburg Oregon, where he worked Mental Health ward. During that time, he learned how to communicate with and help people who were struggling with mental illness.

Ryan began his law enforcement career as a Military Police Officer. During that time, he quickly moved up the ranks to became a Corporal team leader. As a team leader, Ryan developed his abilities as a supervisor, while working and training in stressful and rapidly evolving environments. Ryan also acted as a use of force training officer, and created training scenarios that helped to teach employees how to work through difficult situations. Ryan was chosen for that position because he enjoyed teaching and had the knowledge base to draw from, as he has an extensive background in martial arts. Ryan’s love for teaching continues to this day, as he regularly assists with training while preparing new police officers to be safer and more effective at their jobs. Ryan’s military services came to an abrupt ending, however, upon being diagnosed with cancer. Ryan chose to leave the Army in search of the best treatment possible. Thanks to a combined effort of both OHSU and the V.A. Hospital in Portland Oregon, treatment was successful, and he remains cancer free.

Ryan began his pursuit of helping others as a teenager when he got a job as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the YMCA. During this time, Ryan learned that he liked the job and duties of being a lifeguard. However, Ryan became inspired by the aspect of teaching swimming lessons. Ryan liked the idea of teaching people to enjoy the water and save themselves, far more than the concept of sitting around and waiting for someone to need help. During his time at the YMCA Ryan taught hundreds of young children and teenagers to swim, along with helping numerous adults improve their skills.
