• Studied the surface chemistry of colorless polyimides through gas phase photolysis. This research collaborated with NASA’s effort in finding a thin film fluoro polymer (thermoplastic) that can resist Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV), Ultraviolet (UV), and atomic oxygen radiation when in low earth orbit (LEO)• Conducted surface modification of colorless polyimide thin films, along with surface characterizations• Used chemistry techniques such as x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-Vis, fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and contact angle measurements• Studied the adhesion science of acrylic acid to bond to various polymers• Experienced with thin film deposition/lithography• Successfully developed a method for grafting acrylic acid to a fluoropolymer• Discovered dielectric constants for new fluoro-polymers that were synthesized• Used SEM and AFM for surface roughness studies and metal sputtering determination • Conducted polymer chemistry lab courses• Maintained and serviced the instruments used in the lab courses
