In his current role Ryan works as part of the Asset Management team based between Barnwood and 2 stations (Hunterston and Hinkley Point). Ryan is responsible for the oversight and governance of the stations Risks (in NG Risk Log) and Investments (in IMS) and liaises with his peers at site; in order to help the stations make Risk informed decisions in regards to their investment plans.Ryan analyses Risk and Investment data from the stations and presents it in a clear and concise manner allowing for station and central teams to make informed decisions to prolong station life and maintain successful generation. Ryan plays a key role in managing key stakeholders, from the EDF Executive Team to individual Project Managers, ensuring effective communication and decision making during the investment planning process. This provided me with a valuable insight into the current challenges of project delivery, schedule implications and cost variances across the existing HNB Investment Delivery Projects Portfolio.

Ryan joined edf in November to take up a staff position after ~6.5 years as a contractor across the Magnox fleet. In his current role Ryan works as part of the Asset Management team based between Barnwood and 2 stations (Hunterston and Hinkley Point). Ryan looks after the Risks (in NG Risk Log) and Investments (in IMS) and is in constant communication with his peers at site, in order to help the stations performance and mitigation of Risk by effective decision making.Ryan gathers information from the stations and presents it in a clear and concise manner allowing for central teams to make informed decisions to prolong station life and maintain successful generation. Ryan plays a key role in shaping investment plans, at his attributed stations, to ensure risk informed decisions are being made and the company is receiving value for money in an increasing harsher environment (due to drop in market price for energy)

Ryan was working at Hunterston A Nuclear Power Station, in the Engineering/Safety Case department. He was responsible for the management of the Compliance Maintenance Schedules, including the processes for suspensions and extensions of Maintenance, Inspection and Testing (MIT’s).Ryan often acted as a project engineer and overseen specific parts of projects pertaining to maintenance schedule equipment; commensurate to this Ryan was trained as a Safety Case Author and consequently a Nominated Responsible Engineer (NRE) allowing him to sign off Safety Case documentation.Ryan also had a seat at the ‘Mod Committee’ where he had undertaken the role of Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all Maintenance Schedule related Modifications.Ryan was responsible for ensuring that MIT’s were carried out to the correct standards, at designated intervals stipulated in legislation, liaising with both; Safety Case department, in terms of nuclear compliance; and Work Management, in regards to work order card production. Ryan’s duties also included maintaining the schedules ensuring compliance with their respective regulatory requirements i.e. Statutory Maintenance schedule to remain complaint with IRR99, LOLER, PUWER etc

Magnox Strategic Programmes Team

Ryan was working for Magnox Support Office (MSO) and supported all 10 sites in the Magnox fleet; in relation to all matters concerning Validation and Sanction (equivalent of EDF Energy’s IRM process)Ryan worked directly for the Strategic Projects Director and deputised in periods of absence; in supporting and monitoring the projects in all matters relating to V&S.In his role, he was responsible for the development, administration and implementation of the individual Magnox Programme Sanction Strategies. Ryan was also acting Asset Care Manager for the company; this entailed the writing of a Business Case for building fabric enhancements across the 10magnox stations (repairs to roofs / lifts / stairs etc.) amounting to ~£45m per annum. Ryan ascertained and prioritised the fleet requirements and utilised the governance of the Plant Health Committees to manage the individual station spend. He also created the electronic programme sanction files to include:• Approval Registers• Action trackers• Lessons Learnt and Best Practice Development• Gating History and Sanction Status.• Programme level Business Cases• Programme Sanction Strategies

Ryan was based at Network Rail Headquarters in Glasgow and was involved with a number high profile and high value projects. Most notable: Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Project (EGIP) which is ~ £1billion project upgrading the existing lines from Diesel to Electric trains. Ryan delivered this by leading Project Risk Reviews in the formulation, testing and reviewing of the projects key Risks, Contractual Assumptions and Issues. Ryan ran the analysis – through the use of @risk and Pertmaster – quarterly on Cost and every 6 months on schedule.The Network Rail project management methodology was extremely challenging, in that rail possessions were in 15minute durations. Scope slippage provided very costly in regards to fines to the Train operators.Ryan provided advice, guidance and support to the project and in risk related aspects of programme management; coordinating Risk and Assumption identification and quantification. This included proposals to de-risk the project by removing scope, ensuring possessions retuned prior to time.

Ryan is currently based at Buchannan House in Glasgow which is Network Rail Headquarters for Glasgow and surrounding areas. He is involved with a number high profile and high value projects. Most notable Edinburgh to Glasgow Improvement Project (EGIP) which is approx £1billion project upgrading the existing lines from Diesel to Electric trains. Not only will they achieve electricification, but also new lines will be installed. Thus an increase in the number of trains between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Ryan's role was to act as custodian of the risk registers and maintain that the Risk procedures are adhered to. He delivers this by leading Project Risk Reviews and participates in the formulation, testing and reviewing of the projects key Risks, Assumptions and Issues. Ryan runs the analysis - through the use of @risk and pertmaster - quarterly on Cost and every 6 months on schedule.He provides advice, guidance and support to the project and in risk related aspects of programme management; coordinating Risk and Assumption identification and quantification, including proposals for risk mitigation.

His role required him to provide a proactive, customer-focused and professional risk coordination service to the Site, to ensure that the delivery and execution of the Lifetime Plan (LTP) programme of Nuclear Decommissioning works is maintained to schedule and cost.He delivered this by leading Project and Function Risk Reviews and participates in the formulation, testing and reviewing of the Site’s key Risks, Assumptions and Issues. He provided advice, guidance and support to all Site departments in risk related aspects of programme management; coordinating Risk and Assumption identification and quantification, including proposals for risk mitigation.Ryan also provided technical support and guidance to Planning Engineers and Cost Estimators, proactively promoting and implementing the use of Cost and scheduling tools in line with the NDA and Magnox Ltd procedures.He supported the Site Risk Manager and deputised during periods of absence, monitoring and ensuring that the Risk database (Active Risk Management [ARM]) is up to date and accurate.

Ryan's held a managerial role within this 5 month, ~£1m project, overseeing the QA system and being responsible for the preparation Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all the work undertaken onsite. He was also involved in the Health and Safety Management system; responsible for Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) monitoring required for operatives; managing COSHH data for materials and rolling these out to the operatives on site as Tool Box Talks.Involved in the compilation of programme reporting data, Ryan was responsible for and the preparation and presentation of the 2 week "look-ahead" to the Site Agent and Project Manager.Also, as a Senior Engineer on site, Ryan worked alongside a Trainee Engineer, acting as mentor and supervising his

Ryan was involved in a ~£13m scheme over a period of 18 months which involved the control and installation of a pipeline along the foot of a sea wall and controlling the excavation and installation of a 9m deep caisson pump shaft. There were many complex and challenging aspects due to the nature of the scope, for instance, the programmes was tidal etc.Setting out under the direction of a Section Engineer; Ryan kept a drawing register and the QA for construction works up to date, as well as producing the as built drawings. He also became involved with Site management processes and attended progress meetings with the client.

GallifordTry @ Cove and Kilcreggan and Reservoir Surveys.Ryan held a couple of Trainee Engineer roles during placements from University: He was first involved in carrying out reservoir surveys, producing topographical surveys of the reservoirs which he then documented for the Scottish Water designers. He was involved in regular meetings with designers to review the bespoke surveys and relate any additional information that could facilitate the designs.The other, a 24 month scheme worth ~£8m which involved controlling line and levelling of pipelines; Ryan was involved in setting out of excavations and manholes; and ensuring the drawing register was up to date. After 3 months he was trusted member of the team and was made responsible for a section of work, for which he reported weekly to a Site Agent.The following summer he returned to the scheme for a further 6 months placement and due to his previous performance was given more responsibilities; including the setting out of a Long Sea Outfall (LSO) in accordance with strict specifications and guidelines provided by the MOD (as the Site was within a mile from Coulport Nuclear base). He also attended and took part in commercial and community meetings.
